In her new book, Cringeworthy: A Theory of Awkwardness (Portfolio/Penguin Random House; on-sale: 2/13/18), Dahl sets out in pursuit of the truth about awkwardness, talking to psychologists, researchers and friends alike. What she discovers, however, reminds us of our own humanity and vulnerability. Awkwardness doesn’t have to make us feel alone. Instead, the things that make us cringe can remind us of how connected we all truly are.
